Hi there, I am Emma
Project manager. Parent. An expatriate based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years back, I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to Netherlands wasn't in the long-range plan. As with many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily tasks seemed more challenging than expected.
The Transition Phase
There was culture shock, doubt, and a lot of learning on the go. Gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began forging something that felt steady.
What Led Me to Create BrightFieldWave
Most online resources were either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourist content. What was lacking was a candid, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap—practical guidance grounded in real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Does (And Doesn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on insights from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when something truly changes
This site isn't:
- A tourism-authority resource
- Not a sponsored-review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Moving Forward
Our time in Netherlands goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please reach out.
Best regards,
Emma
